This is the official poster created by the artist Shag for the world premiere of Googie, a new Design Onscreen documentary directed by award-winning filmmaker Jake Gorst. This exclusive collectible measures 18 inches by 24 inches and is printed on high-quality gloss cover poster stock.

Googie architecture was one of the most visually expressive design movements of the mid-twentieth century. Defined by bold angles, dramatic rooflines, and a forward-looking sense of spectacle, Googie transformed everyday places into eye-catching destinations. Coffee shops, bowling alleys, car washes, churches, and banks became architectural icons that captured the optimism of postwar American culture.

Although rooted in Los Angeles, Googie design echoed the influence of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and John Lautner. Commercial firms like Armet and Davis helped shape the style’s most recognizable examples, which once dotted streetscapes across the country. While many original structures have disappeared, renewed appreciation from historians, architects, and enthusiasts has brought widespread recognition to Googie’s cultural and artistic importance.

The film explores the rise, decline, and revival of Googie architecture, and features commentary from John English, Alan Hess, Alison Martino, Peter Moruzzi, Michael Murphy, Victor Newlove, Chris Nichols, and Charles Phoenix. Run time: 70 minutes. A Design Onscreen production. designonscreen.org

Following the screening, a panel discussion will be moderated by Alison Martino with Jake Gorst and special guests. A VIP Pre-Screening Reception with preferred seating is also available.

Posters are mailed rolled for protection (frame is not included).
