Rare & Vintage Exclusives

We'll have a selection of rare and vintage Eames pieces that highlight moments when design met real-world problem-solving. Included are the Computer House of Cards, created for the IBM Pavilion at the 1970 World’s Fair in Osaka and printed only once; the original Eames Molded Leg Splints from 1943; and the Eames House Whale. Made from molded plywood to improve comfort and safety for injured soldiers, these pieces mark important milestones in the Eames story and remainsome of the most compelling artifacts of their work.

Life-Saving Eames Design

The Eames Molded Leg Splint is one of the most important and rare objects in the Eames story. Designed in 1943 to replace metal splints that were harming wounded soldiers, it featured a molded plywood form that fit the human leg for safer support and transport. Few originals remain, and the limited examples released by the Eames Office are highly sought after, marking a defining moment when Eames design first proved its power to solve real human problems.

Eames House Whale

The Eames House Whale reflects how Charles and Ray Eames lived, with objects chosen for their form, character, and joy. A nearly six-foot folk art piece, it appeared in iconic photographs, including early images of the Lounge Chair and Ottoman. Recreated as a hand-painted Vitra replica, it captures the playful spirit at the heart of the Eames home.
